Mam Nick - Edale

This Pedal Stop killer climb is 2km long.

A favourite of mine this. Everyone talks about Winnats Pass yet most don't even know this is right next to it. Views of the Edale valley from the top are amazing. I have one friend who would prefer to climb Winnats than this. I dont share his view but Mam Nick is still a pretty steep climb and one most avoid.

From the road you can only get to it by turning right as you enter Hope. or by coming from the A6187 and riding down to come back up, its a nice descent! From here its a very nice ride up the valley. Almost traffic free compared to the Hope Valley road.Sportive.com assure me that the lenght of the climb is 2km with an average gradient of 11.2%.It tops out at 19% and climbs 250meters in 2km.

I've climbed it a few times (usually to avoid Winnats!). The bottom section is steepish but its a warm up. It then softens a bit. The last 1k I'm more or less out of the saddle all the way as the gradient goes into double figures. the worst part is a small stretch that always reminds me of an overhang as when you come down there is a brief moment you can't see where the road goes. This is also a popular spot for tourists to pull over in cars and admire the scenery. They usually say hello but I'm in oxygen debt so can never reply!!! Its steep all the wa to the top. Less traffic on this climb too.
