Hathersage - Eyam - Hathersage
This Pedal Stop cycle route is a 14 mile circular route starting and
finishing in Hathersage. The route takes in Eyam, Foolow and includes
a great descent from the gliding club.
Leave Hathersage and ride beneath the railway bridge taking your second
right just after the plough pub. The climb up through Leam is very steep
to start but offers very little traffic and a good road surface. Left at
the junction to descend the steepest section of Sir William Hill. Follow
the road down to the junction at Grindleford turning right onto New Road.
on the brow of the hill turn right onto Church St and follow signs for Eyam.
This road is not too steep but very quiet and offers a great view of Froggatt Edge.
At Eyam there are places to stop for refreshments and on the climb out sign
posted on the right is a museum. Follow the road through foolow turning right
for Great Hucklow. The climb to the gliding club consists of two switch backs
which break up the gradient.
The view from the gliding club and the descent is one of the finest in the
valley. A very quiet but quick descent with a nice road surface that only
breaks up in Abney then gets better as you pass the forrested area and the descent
becomes steeper. Turn left at the and continue back to Hathersage.
