Hathersage – Edale – Castleton – Great Hucklow – Grindleford – Fox House – Hathersage

his route is roughly 30miles long taking in the sever climb out of Edale and also out of Castleton. The rewards for your efforts are the views from the Barrel pub and the long descent of Sir William Hill, also the descent towards Hathersage.

Start in Hathersage. Continue along A6187 Castleton Rd. On Entering Hope take the first right after the ‘Old Hall ‘ pub onto Edale Rd. Continue towards Edale. Climb out of Edale past Barberbooth. This is a very steep and long climb with spectacular views; steepest part is the middle section. Descend onto A6187 and turn left. Follow the road round turning left onto Winnats Pass. Descending very steeply into Castleton.Turn right onto Back Street then climb steeply up Pindale Rd onto Siggate, rounding a very steep hairpin and over the quarry. Follow washhouse Bottom past Coplow Dale and Little Hucklow. Turning left and heading towards Great Hucklow. Continue through Great Hucklow and up Sir William Hill Rd passing the Barrel pub on your left. On this ridge you have one of the best panoramic views of the Peak District. Descend steeply Sir William Hill turning left into Grindleford. Climb out of Grindleford to the junction of the A6187 opposite the Fox House pub turn left. Descend towards Hathersage taking in the ‘Surprise’ probably the finest view of the Hope Valley. Ending in Hathersage, Approx. 30miles
